Toys Mania is a Toys bazaar, and after our success at AFA ID, our nendoroid community are invited to attending Toys Mania Event at Point Square Lebak Bulus.
After some technical difficulty, we are managed to establish our booth.
During the first day, we saw different result between AFA and Toys Mania. I found out if our booth are less crowded than AFA because most of AFA visitor are passionated with Japan Culture and thus interested with chibi design. While in Toys Mania, most of the visitors are more interested in normal action figure, especially, Kamen Rider (yes, that’s right. There are tons of Kamen Rider fans in Indonesia).
However, event our booth are less crowded, it does not mean if ours are not interested.
The schedule is so mess up. We are promised if our display case will arrived at 4 PM. But up until 6 PM, we got nothing. All community booth are still empty like in the middle of a desert.
Around 9 PM, our display case is finally arrived. After loosing in argument to win a lamp display case, we must clean this big case first because it was rainy and dirty.
At the loading day, after setting and displaying our Nendoroids, we met with a woman and have an interesting conversation here.
She was asking, “why are we not creating/sculpting our own nendoroid like product?”
Now, keep in mind that she’s not an otaku. Her first and last manga was Candy Candy (she admit it).
So I tried to answer her question as simple as possible. I said, I think we got the talent to do that, but no money, and others to support it.
My answer might not entirely correct but at least she understand the idea.
She also said, “with tons of your collection here. Have you ever considered to create and event with prizes or something like that? You know, to attract more visitors and members”
I replied: “We do have that event (two times, 6 nendoroit petit and 1 regular nendoroid as the prizes). But we don’t have fund for the prizes anymore, we need sponsors.”
Most of the prizes are came from our own money (which are quite killing one of our member’s pocket :D).
Then she came with: “You have the community. And quite big in Jakarta. While you are promoting Japanese product, why don’t you ask a sponsorship to fund your activity to… um, let’s says… Japan Embassy?”
This one actually makes me blank. I never considered to ask Japan Embassy as our sponsor and I think not quite related, even Nendoroid was came from Japan. So, I said this as an excuse.
“Well, I think Japan Embasy did a great support for other event in Indonesia. Like for example, Japan Festivals. But since most of the event are Japan Traditional culture, and Nendoroid or others are more to Modern Culture, probably it won’t fit.”
Again, my answer might not entirely correct
We also talking about the possibility of having cooperation with Toys store/retailers, especially with Nendoroid seller. I was said to her if they’re probably didn’t quite care about us,since the culture are quite different from what in other country.
In other country, a Toys Stores/Distributors/Retailers are willing to spending ton of money for advertising and publications. But it does not mean if that will happen in our country.
But of course, we actually still writing a proposal draft for sponsorship or support for our community. I just did not said that to her because my mind still in haywire because I have not sleeping from yesterday (the loading schedule is quite mess up), and I want to avoiding any questions that makes me thinking too hard (my bad :D)
So, that’s the end of Loading day. We all go home for morning schedule.
I bought a regular AAA batteries for Snow Miku base. Surprisingly, the battery is last long for two days! My friend forgot to turn it off before leaving, and the next day, it still light up! Wow!
Racing Miku 2011 car actually won the race. So when this Nendoroid is reissued, it will come with a winner trophy.
During the event, suddently we got massive young photographer from a photography faculty.
I was like, wut?
They are looking for Nendoroid Homura Akemi school uniform.
Unfortunately, we don’t have it. So I point them to Nendoroid Homura Mahou Shoujo version.
They are asking us to take out Nendoroid Homura from the display case, but we’re refuse it (so sorry about this), because displaying her is too hazzle and she’s easy to fell off.
Me, my friend got the same question. “Who is their teacher anyway?”
This guy/girl probably know about our presence in Toys Mania. He/she might a nendoroid collector too, or at least a fan of Homura Akemi.
And, finally this guy is shows up in front of me.
He is asking about Snow Miku 2012 and then he said if he brought one of his nendoroid. He’s showed to me, and I was like “Dude, that one is being hunted by some photography student”. And he replied “Yeah, because I was the one who gave the order…”
Oh… my…. God
Oh, I almost forgot. At the Loading day, I was informed if our booth are taken by other. You see, the EO is decided if they will let us to pick our booth. So we must put a mark, as a sign if this location is already taken. But then, when I was at the printer to print this name card, my friend is texting me if someone is taking our booth.
So when I was at the setting process with the printing operator, I ordered him to just print one side of the name card. The original card actually double sided card.
My friend got the idea to shot a cosplayer photo with respective Nendoroid. This Remila Scarlet actually already gone far, so I just ” well, if you can drag her here, let’s do it!”
A few minutes later, my friend is come back with her, and her photographer too, That Pentax Guy.
Another funny story is. One of our community member came with Nendoroid Petit Saber and Rin from Fate Hollow Atraxia. I was curious about Nendoroid Petit Rider in her maid uniform, then when I was looking at the box, I saw if this Rider is part of Fate Hollow Atraxia too.
Then I just said this randomly, “I really want Rider in maid uniform”
And then he replied, “I think Rider still available”
I was like, ” How did you know?!”
And he said, “The seller already opened the box and mark the contents”
My friend suddenly rushed, “Did they still got Rin?”
Without any more question, we are rushing to the seller booth and start yelling to the Sales Lady. “Excuse me, can I see that box!”
She took one box, gave it to my friend. And my friend is giving it to me, oh boy! Nendoroid Rider maid uniform! I got it!
Nendoroid Petit Rin maid uniform is sold, but my friend got Sakura. We all go back to our booth with satisfy face.
Talking about “heresy”, Figmania booth is displaying various figures. Figmania are supposed to display Figma only, but they brought their Busou Shinki, Revoltech, and even fixed PVC figures. Thus, the term of “heresy” are used
Other interesting stuff is, one of the visitor actually building a custom play set for his K-ON nendoroid.
So I said to him, you should post this our facebook group. There will be tons of people will interested, trust me.
And he did post it, and a lot of people are interested.
And, I need to end this post here because this one already taking a lot of space. I will write the second part, soon…
To be continued
