Hello, this is my first model kit review, and I will review a LBX model kit from Danball Senki anime.
Danball Senki is an anime about a small robot toys, around 14 cm height, and controlled with a cellphone (the cellphone is called as CCM). This small robots are called as LBX, and people use it to battle each other inside a reinforced cardboard box (danboru/danball).
The interesting part in this anime is, the LBX battle are using 3D model with cartoon shading renderer, and I must tell you, the cartoon shading renderer is so good in this anime. You will never feel weird when seeing 3D model inside a 2D frame.
The main character is Ban Yamano, Kazuya Aoshima, and Ami Kawamura. And for this review, I choose Ami’s LBX, Pandora.
This is little background story for LBX Pandora:
Pandora role on her first appearance is as a mysterious LBX who always helping Ban and his friend. Her original color is mostly white with greenish colored hair and laser blade/Kunai (this laser blade is called as Hope Edge).
Then, after several episode, it revealed if Pandora owner is the Tiny Orbit’s Director. Because he is impressed on how Ami reveal his disguise, he gave Pandora to Ami after her Kunoichi is broken during the fight against the intruder.
After this, Ami is customizing Pandora color with Red and White. Just like Kunoichi, Pandora is a agile LBX, she’s move very fast and attacking with dual blade (Hope Edge). Her Attack Function is Souken Rangeki, an energy ball projectiles (just imagine Hadou Ken from Street Fighter).
I just realized if I put her left shoulder armor in wrong orientation T_T, oh well…
In my opinion, Pandora is the most beautiful female type LBX. When I saw Kunoichi, I was like, “meh…” Then I saw Pandora, I was like “heeeey, sexy lady!”.
In the second season of Danball Senki, I was expecting Minerva will be as good as Pandora, but then “meh…”. And I was expecting Minerva Kai will be as beautiful as Pandora, but then… “meh…”.
Pandora is the best, period. Feel free to disagree, I don’t give a damn
This model kit is came with sticker galore. You need to attach a lot of stickers to get the parts in correct color. I know most of you are dislike marking sticker, but what can I say, this kit is oriented to younger hobbyist.
But at least, Pandora came with blue transparent displaying base for her aerial poses.
Pandora weapon is a dual blade, called as Hope Edge. This weapon is a Kunai type weapon since the original design is came from Kunoichi. The blade is a glowing energy or laser blade. Althought, this laser blade cannot break a “shielded” object.
Pandora also can equipped with range weapon like dual pistol (not included in the box), you can see this during the Seeker’s battle at the enemy base.
My first complain about this model is. The hope edge, hair, chest part, and back skirt parts got clear parts, how come her eyes not in clear yellow parts??
The side skirt are supposed to be attached on her hip, but in this model, Bandai is putting it on the upper leg part.
Pandora leg design is a high heel design. We still can pose her without the need of a displaying base. But the foot pad are fixed, we cannot move it, while I saw in the anime, the food pad and the heel are movable.
This is probably the most annoying part that I found. Pandora is a strider type frame, it mean a LBX that relying on speed and movability. But Bandai mold her hip joint just like the photo above, because of that kind of design, you cannot move her leg freely.
See? I cannot bend her leg more than that. That’s not even reaching 45 degree angle. And what about her knee?
Again, not much. Bandai is really need to revise this model kit.
Well at least her elbow is better than her leg…
I think you can use LBX during Zombie Outbreak.
Size comparison with Figma Aegis from Persona 3.
Despite all of the design flaw from Bandai, I think Pandora is a cool and beautiful LBX. If you only need to display her with her Souken Rangeki, or just a simple pose, this model kit is for you.
But if you demanding a good gimmick, avoid this model kit, OR… you could just mod this kit
Rating on based 5 stars max.
ROBOT DESIGN: *****
Note to Bandai (if you read this): Revise your model kit design. When I saw this problem, I can figure it out the solution already, but this is not my job, it’s yours.
